Where every word and image came from, and how an unreachable archive was read anyway.
This is an independent rebuild of the Jackson Square Group website. The original at jacksonsquaregroup.com is gone: the domain is parked and serves a Hostinger placeholder. Almost everything here was recovered from archives of the 2010–2017 site, plus the company’s LinkedIn page.
Provenance
Where each part came from
- The company description — the LinkedIn company page, read 27 October 2026: “a market research technology firm … creates technologies that maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of gathering data and intelligence from consumer markets.”
- The New Orleans and New York addresses — the same LinkedIn page, which lists both offices; the 2010 site gave Suite 301 c/o LaunchPad.
- “A holding company that primarily invests in market research technology firms” — the archived 2017 home page.
- The launch message and the Federated Sample description — the archived 2010 home page, verbatim.
- The CEO letter — the archived News page, May 2010, verbatim and in full.
- The three biographies — the archived “Our Management Team” page, verbatim.
- Office phone and fax — the archived Contact page and News page.
- The colours, the type and the layout — the site’s own css/main.css, recovered whole: slate #4e585c, masthead #2b373b, accent #39c9ff, Georgia for everything.
- The logo, the mark, the portraits, the signature, the flourishes — the site’s own img/ files, recovered from the archive.
- Events after 2010 — Louisiana Economic Development’s July 2014 profile of Federated Sample (seed round, hires, 200 partners in 65 countries, 50 employees) and TechCrunch, 10 April 2017 (the $60M round and the Lucid rebrand).
- Jackson Square and Magazine Street photographs — Wikimedia Commons: an 1858 engraving (public domain) and Magazine Street (CC BY-SA 4.0). The Midtown photograph is CC BY-SA 4.0.
What was lost
And what could not be reproduced
- The client login portal. The navigation pointed at a data portal on the company’s own domain. It is described on the home page rather than linked.
- The newsletter form. It posted to a third-party mailing list that no longer exists.
- The 2010 press release. The site offered it as a Word document and a PDF (“Jackson Square Group Unveils Federated Sample”). Neither file was ever archived.
- The client photographs. The 2010 home page used a photograph of the CEO and an office photograph; both were recovered, but no other photography from the site was ever published.
- Video. The company never published any.
Design
Restored, with three deliberate departures
The original stylesheet survived, so this rebuild follows it: the sky-blue rule across the top, the dark masthead with the logo on the right, the dotted content box, the blue gradient cards, the black footer with a flourish, and Georgia throughout.
- Responsive. The original was a fixed 960-pixel grid. This one collapses to one column on a phone.
- Link text is darker. The original coloured links #39c9ff, which is a 1.9:1 contrast ratio on white — unreadable for many people. Links here are #0a6d94; the sky blue is kept for rules, headings and cards.
- Looser spacing. The original set body text at 14 pixels with tight leading, which was normal in 2010 and is not now.
- The slate surround is gone. The original put a fixed 960-pixel white box on a #4e585c page, so the screen had grey bands down both sides. This rebuild runs white edge to edge and centres the content, which at 1120 pixels is slightly wider than the original’s 960.
Everything else — palette, typeface, logo, imagery, tone — is the company’s own.
Afterwards
What became of the company
The operating business, Federated Sample, rebranded as Lucid in 2017 and took outside capital. Lucid is a separate company today with its own site; nothing on this rebuild is a Lucid page. The holding company’s own domain went quiet, and it has been parked for years.
This site is a record of the company as it described itself, not a statement about what Lucid is now.
